Doing art with mini humans is one of my most favorite things. For 4 hours a day I work at an elementary school with 5th graders but on Fridays I get to work with K-5. Each week on Fridays the kids do an art project, I came in not knowing what I was going to do and as I was going through boxes of supplies I found googly eyes..
I knew exactly what I wanted to make... monsters!! Monsters have lots of eyes and kids like glueing, seriously. Give them glue and they'll be busy for hours.
I gathered my supplies:
•Paper
•Gluesticks
•Crayons
•Scissors
I told my students to gather around my table as I took a colored piece of paper & I tore one shape out of it. I noticed I had room for one more shape so I cut the other shape out. These are organic shapes, meaning they're not real such as a square or triangle, they are very free and imperfect and that's exactly what you want... Think monstery thoughts while you tear or cut.
Next, I told them to glue their shape or shapes down and to pick some eyes.
They asked how many and I said "as many out of the bag as you need." There's not a lot of rules here, I wing most art projects for kids, But this was a hit!! Once they glue their shape down they can start glueing their eyes on and decorating their monsters.
This is the fun part-- my instruction here were to take my doodle cheat sheet (pictured below) and make marks on your monster and create a background.
The background can be a child's bedroom like in monster's University or outside or under a bed... The sky is the limit!
My mini humans Loved this project!! We hung ours up in the cafeteria and they were so proud, days like that make me happy to share what I know about art.
Kids love to get creative- here are some of the ones my mini people came up with..
Like I said, they were proud and we had fun!
Now, the WINNER OF YESTERDAY'S GIVEAWAY IS...
